Touring New Zealand's North Island by Campervan

One of the attractions of Waitarere Beach is the wreckage of the sailing ship Hydrabad. She was hit by a heavy storm in the winter of 1878, and Captain Holmwood eventually drove her onto the beach in a successful attempt to save his crew and passengers. In 1905, the steel hull still offered interesting exploring, though there's not a lot left now. Note that the location of the shoreline has changed by hundreds of meters in the past century.
